Is Nautilus a hybrid interconnector?
Nautilus belongs to the latter category and has been given the green light. A hybrid interconnector like Nautilus has two functions: it transports power between two countries, but it can also bring offshore wind energy back to their shores.
Will Nautilus be able to exchange electricity through the North Sea?
These studies will have to determine, among other things, which route the interconnector will take, both on land and in the North Sea. Nautilus is currently in the study phase. According to the current schedule, exchanging electricity via Nautilus will not be possible until 2028 at the earliest.
Could a nautilus interconnector connect to the UK's electricity system?
As a result of this process, the Nautilus interconnector is now proposed to connect to the UK’s electricity system at the Isle of Grain, Kent. Nautilus could connect up to 1.4 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind to each country through subsea electricity cables.

As shown in Figure 2, Nautilus would connect offshore wind farm/s to an offshore converter station, potentially linking clusters of wind farms into a single connection point, before transporting this electricity to the onshore transmission systems of two connected countries through a subsea electricity cable.
