Trinidad and Tobago is heavily dependent on its oil and gas reserves ( Fig. 3 ), petrochemical and other hydrocarbon related downstream industries ( Indar, 2019 ). Thus, the country is unique amongst SIDS and must maximise its benefit from these natural resources, in terms of energy production.
This output is expected to supply Trinidad's premier liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, Atlantic LNG, wherein BP and Shell hold a 45% equity stake each. Trinidad and Tobago is Latin America's largest LNG exporter and ranks as the world's second-largest exporter of methanol and ammonia.
